Learning Electric

In case you did not hear, I got a new electric guitar for my birthday.  I promptly got a POD XT Live (Thanks Will for your help), and hooked it all up to my old acoustic amp (next thing to purchase if I ever have money).

I’ve always had a hard time trying to learn things like lead guitar, I just don’t know where to start.  So I figure I should try to play some songs I like that have more rhythm than lead.  I was playing with some songs on iTunes and came across “Let God Arise” by Chris Tomlin, the live version is pretty rocking.  After wasting time looking for tabs that can be helpful (they all seemed to be for acoustic with capos), I finally pulled up youtube.  I found a sweet blog with a short video (which are always helpful for me) along with some good tab.

Sites like this will definitely keep me motivated to keep up my new hobby.

Hey David!

What kind of electric guitar did you get? Also, how’s it going after the first few weeks?

Funny considering you are in Tacoma WA, but I’m a big fan of Tacoma acoustics (I have two). I’ve not played any of the newer ones since Fender bought them though, so I’m not sure what they are like now.

For electric, my favorite is G&L guitars by far.

By the way, I’m also a big Chris Tomlin fan, along with Paul Baloche, and Matt Redman. Paul Baloche has a lot of good teaching material, even for electric guitar -

I know a couple people with Tacoma acoustic guitars. I have a Guild and a Takamini. When I make my second million (which will be after my first million of course), I want to get a Taylor, but perhaps I should check out those Tacomas.

Thanks for the link and info. I’m trying to find even a few minutes in the day to play at all, I have a large learning curve ahead of me. I’m currently trying to learn some downhere (http://www.downhere.com), which is my wife’s favorite band.

Awesome, that’s a sweet guitar.

Yeah, Tacomas are great. I have a DM9, which I play all the time, and a JM16C which rarely leaves the case. I got a steal on the JM16C and took it around with thoughts of trading it for a Taylor, but I found that very few of the Taylors I played were as good or better.

I know the feeling with finding time to play.
